The housing project engages with the significant heritage of Oslo’s Fagerborg neighborhood. The goal for the building conceived by Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter was to make the pleasures of urban living accessible to as many people as possible, while skillfully combining tradition and innovation.
Encompassing three blocks of buildings that vary in height from four to six floors, P77-79 aims to transform the site – which sits as an intersection at the meeting point of three streets and a park – into a lively urban oasis. The differing silhouette of each block was intended to ensure the penetration of natural daylight throughout and to provide equal access to views, but all three buildings were designed as a unified architectural entity, with a deliberate focus on form, materials, and visibility. Additionally, they blend seamlessly with the site’s natural slope, featuring a stepped progression that facilitates a smooth connection to the neighboring areas.
In the name of community, the building provides abundant common areas that serve as meeting spaces for its residents, as well as rooftop gardens that offer mesmerizing views of the city. It also features a local café, which occupies a socially unifying role for the area. In this way, the project offers the quarter a distinct set of benefits, and fosters a sense of community that is as diverse and lively as the very essence of the neighborhood itself.
