Competition win in Val d’Isère, France

Project for a multi-purpose building for leisure and sports.

Team Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter together with Odile+Guzy and co-contractors, are the winners of the competition to design Val d’Isère's new destination building for leisure and sports in France.

In the heart of the renowned village of Val d'Isère, Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter in collaboration with Odile + Guzy Architectes has designed la Maison des Avalins, set to operate as the cornerstone of the community. While offering a new year-round destination for both locals and visitors, this resort respects and honors the existing village of Val d’Isère. With its clear and refined lines, the building’s silhouette will rise gracefully against the backdrop of the Alpine ranges, not only embracing but also enhancing the landscape.

Drawing inspiration from a rich palette of architectural principles, the project integrates spatial design, aesthetic expression, and functional efficiency. Uniting a complex program of public spaces, sports facilities, and commercial space in one compact building, it seamlessly blends into its majestic environment while prioritizing user-friendly spaces that cater to a diverse range of needs. During the summer, stone steps that naturally blend with the terrain will lead into the heart of the building – but visitors can easily find access to the public entrance all year round.

More than just a building, la Maison des Avalins is designed to be a cultural landmark, where sport, history, tradition, and community converge.

The project has been developed by the Oslo studio of Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter in collaboration with the Paris-based Odile+Guzy architectes, as well as a qualified team of French engineers and co-contractors.

The construction of the building is set to start mid-2025 and is to be completed in time for the 2028 ski season.
