New mission in Bispevika, Oslo
We are happy to reveal that our office has been selected to work on one of the last plots in the Bjørvika masterplan development in Oslo.
The project will house around 140 apartments and commercial spaces, and is located in the heart of Bispevika. Facing the fjord across from the new Munch museum on one side, and the new public park Kongsbakkeallmenningen on the other, it will connect the newly develop neighborhood to Gamlebyen (the old town) and Sørenga.
For over 20 years, Oslo has gone through a large transformation along the coastline of the city. “Fjordbyen”, or the Fjord City, has developed areas previously used for shipping containers and highways into housing and recreation for the inhabitants and visitors of the Norwegian capital. The transformation is now in its final phase, and most of the areas have been built. It is therefore a great pleasure for us to design one of the last remaining plots along the fjord, and be part of this great effort to open up the city towards the fjord.
“We have received many inquiries from both international and Norwegian architectural offices about working on this project. We have considered many of them, but we wanted Reiulf Ramstad and his team. We are therefore very pleased that they accepted the assignment. We have great respect for the work they do and look forward to the collaboration”, says Karl Jon Sørli, head of the project at Oslo S Utvikling
Such a project is both inspiring and challenging, and we have already had several very good and interesting conversations with OSU. They are ambitious and passionate about quality, while at the same time taking the job of creating a vibrant and attractive neighborhood seriously. We are thankful for the trust in our work and look forward to the collaboration !
