Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter to Compete For The New Library in Thamesmead, London
Reiulf Ramstad Architects are happy to be one of five teams shortlisted by The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and Peabody Housing Association to design a new library and civic building for south-east London’s Thamesmead. The state-of-the-art building will be located on the south side of Southmere Lake, a short walk to the new Crossrail at Abbey Wood station.
“As we approach Thamesmead’s 50th birthday in 2018, I hope this building will become an emblem of London’s new town finally fulfilling its potential.” -John Lewis, executive director for Thamesmead at Peabody.
The landmark project is part of the development of Southmere Village area, and will be the center for the new programme of 1,500-home, first phase of a masterplan designed by Proctor & Matthews and Mecanoo. The 1960’s housing estate will be regenerated into a civic-led quarter and feature spaces for health, learning, well-being and civic functions on its upper level.
Reiulf Ramstad Architects had an interesting site visit this week in Thamesmead London, and we look forward to the new competition!
