Situated on the west side of Oslo, approximately 4 kilometers from the city center, the historic Tåsen neighborhood has the potential to play a crucial role in the densification of key metro stations in Oslo. Our vision for the quarter aims to transform it into an attractive residential area for a diverse demographic, providing an inspiring living environment with extensive public and private outdoor spaces, complex housing designs, and community-focused solutions, all within proximity of the city center.

Strategically located at the junction of single-family homes, denser block housing, and the Tåsen Center development area, the district offers a unique opportunity to integrate different housing typologies and enhance connectivity. Our vision for the development prioritizes a mix of townhouses, terraced houses, and shared houses, all of which will blend seamlessly with existing structures.

The project features a diverse mix of heights, scales, and materials. Buildings near the metro station will have a more urban character, combining brick and wood. As the development extends southeast towards the family homes, the structures will gradually decrease in scale, and offer reinterpretations of the colorful wooden houses historically found at Tåsen.

Tåsen is named from the Norse terms for "open space" and "natural meadow," and our design also intends to enhance the area’s connection with its name through an abundance of active green spaces, sunny gardens, and parks. Although it is safe, quiet, and green, the district has historically been privatized, and lacks meeting places. We plan to create inviting pockets throughout the indoor and outdoor areas that encourage people to come together and enjoy their surroundings, ultimately establishing new public spaces for the entire city.

Two historical buildings, the “Southern Tåsen Estate" (Søndre Tåsen Gård) and the "Tenant House" (Forpakterboligen), will be preserved and revitalized, while new constructions surrounding them will be positioned on the site to highlight and complement their existing facades. The development of the existing “Southern Tåsen Estate” is intended to enhance the appeal of the entire Tåsen area, with landscape design that connects green and built structures, including the groves, yards, gardens, and avenues.

This multifunctional neighborhood will also feature offices, studios, café, and food production facilities. Social functions will be integrated into common rooms, which can be used for training, workshops, gardening, and guest accommodations, while serving as extended living spaces for all residents – including senior and multi-generational communities. Ultimately, our vision for this project aims to create a vibrant, sustainable community that is well-integrated with the surrounding urban fabric.
