The project of Urtegata 9 consist of two proposals; one in favor of the transformation of the existing constructions combined with new buildings, and the other for a complete renewal of the site. The option for the transformation makes the existing building more effective and attractive while at the same time preserves a part of the history of the area. The proposal for new buildings makes housing typologies possible which is a new function for this site. The mix of programs with office, shops and housing will encourage the place to be used during the day as well as night-time, and be attractive both in weekdays and weekends.
The location of Urtegata 9 is the meeting point of many different neighborhoods of the city. The building will be a place where social, cultural and commercial activities meet and interact. Urtegata 9 will be an open and a living part of Oslo - a new attraction to visit. The combination of the rationality and functionality of the office part in relation to the bazaar and its richness in activities and boutiques creates an exciting architectural meeting between the different cultures in the area.
