Our newly finished brick housing building for Pilestredet 77-79 in Oslo, wins Murverksprisen 2020 - the norwegian masonry award.
“Pilestredet 77-79 has exceptionally beautiful brick work. Convincing volume building and a traditional craft respond to the challenge in a complex plot situation with a modern and future-oriented expression and restrained tools. The project shows great empathy, sensitivity and care for the details, made possible through a close and constructive collaboration between architects and masons.” - Byggutengrenser
The use of hand-crafted bricks was the most important aspect of the project architectural expression. It is an historical material which can be assemble manually in a very sculptural way and define the project’s identity. The selected bricks have been hand-baked so that they get a very specific patina and rough texture. The façades of the new buildings celebrate long craft traditions, with handmade bricks that play on layers with modern lines, and large windows from ceiling to floor.
In order to achieve the consistently high quality of the project, the important and good collaboration we have had with the client, planners and contractor early in the project development has been crucial.
